After several days of rough weather, San Antonio will have clear sunny skies for the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Severe thunderstorms, which included hail, minor flooding and one confirmed tornado, pummeled the Alamo City and most of Central Texas this week.

But we’ve earned a reprieve as forecasters say things will calm down over the next few days. Rain isn’t predicted again until the middle of next week. This weekend will see temperatures around 90 degrees with less humidity, so it will be a good time to go soak up some Vitamin D.

Since May 23, an average of about four inches of rain fell on the area, according to NWS readings at the San Antonio airport. Sunday’s storms, which spawned a tornado near the intersection of Shaenfield Road and Loop 1604, was also responsible for producing the most rain this week, an average of about two inches fell.

Meteorologists said the level of precipitation this week is common for the San Antonio area as the end of May is typically a wet weather period.

The storms also caused plenty of destruction with thousands losing power, sometimes nightly as the severe weather downed trees and power lines and hail damaged vehicles, homes and windows. The tornado, which had maximum winds of 100 mph and a width of about 50 yards, traveled for a half mile before dissipating. It lasted about a minute, the NWS reported.

Lightning from one storm sparked a fire that completely destroyed one home on the West Side Sunday night and another severely damaging a second on the North Side Wednesday night, the San Antonio Fire Department reported. Firefighters also responded to 23 high water investigations and had to conduct seven water rescues and three water evacuations on Sunday night.
